Handcrafting

Ecological and sustainable handcrafting

Our initial idea was to give new kinds of handcrafting experiences for all the people, both children and adults, and at the same time to make them more familiar with wood pulp. We saw the non-toxic wood pulp as an ecological and sustainable alternative to fossil-fuel based handcrafting materials, with a wonderful feel when used in molding.

First experiments with the new material

The best way to know if an idea is actually working, is to go and test it in practise. In the spring of 2015 we had our first hands-on experiments with Fun Pulp at a local day care center. During the first try-outs, a total of sixty-five 3-6 year old children were experiencing Fun pulp and creating
different kinds of ornaments from it.

Toukofest event

In May 2015 we took part in Toukofest (“May fest”), the biggest cultural event for school aged children in Central Finland. The event is organised in the city of Jyväskylä every May.  During the busy two days hundreds of children had a change to have fun with Fun pulp and Fun panel.

Looking for the future

By the spring 2017 more than 3000 three to sixteen year old children had had fun with Fun Pulp and Fun Panel in several day care centre and school projects, and various events in Finland.

Pilot project in cooperation with the city of Jyväskylä

During the school year of 2016-2017 about 1200 children participated in a pilot project carried out in cooperation with the city of Jyväskylä. The aim of the project was to introduce wood pulp as a versatile teaching material within early childhood education and comprehensive school.

Fun Pulp and Fun Panel are wood pulp based handcrafting materials. They are naturally non-toxic, re-useable, recyclable and even compostable.
